What customers say

Based on genuine customer reviews

Home reports, energy performance certificates and property valuations form the backbone of the work described by clients of this Edinburgh firm, and the accounts share a tone of steady professionalism. Reviews regularly refer to the thoroughness and respect shown during inspections, with named staff such as Donal, Chris Weir and Darren Lewis singled out for their efficiency and approachable manner. Turnaround speed is a constant thread, including a report completed over a bank holiday, and communication is said to stay clear from the first enquiry to the finished document.

The online portal earns praise for its straightforward, step-by-step layout, bringing payments, home reports and contracts together in one place. A further point that comes up often is the willingness to answer questions, with surveyors taking time to explain issues and acting on comments promptly so that reports could go live without delay. Those who have instructed the team across portfolios of properties describe the same standard on every occasion, and valuation figures are called fair and reasonable. Assistance with arranging appointments and securing updated certificates is also noted, with staff making extra efforts to help. Dependable, comprehensive reporting sits behind the feedback.

Chris Weir was my initial point of contact and was very professional to deal with. Darren Lewis and his co-worker were extremely professional and efficient during the Home report. Very quick turnaround in getting the HR done and overall an excellent standard of service. I would recommend shepherd’s and would not hesitate to use again in the future.

I thought Donal and his trainee were excellent: comprehensive, respectful, trustworthy and completely professional. I was very satisfied with the time taken to explain a few issues and grateful that my comments were treated appropriately and promptly allowing my Home Report to go 'live' in a timely manner. I give this one star because irrespective of the surveyor duty and skills involved in a undertaking a property survey, it needs to be presented fairly and without ambiguity. I had a home report done - the onus being on the seller- which identified some low level damp. Because of the word 'rot' as well as damp, the impact of this report has been catastrophic and I have now had to remove my property from the market. Based on the way the issue was phrased, feedback from buyers was they assumed the property was riddled with wet rot and had serious damp issues - This is the main deterrent with my kind of older property- Scotland is not optimal for dry arid conditions and the flat is 120 years old. I believe that this phraseology and the high valuation price (that sat at odds with market forces, other agents views and pitched my flat well above expectations) has been THE significant cause of inability to sell my property given perception it would be a financial burden to remediate ( I had two v moderate quotes which could not be acted on whilst it was on the market ). I later had a damp expert examine the property and his view based on 40 years of experience, was there was no discernable damp (smell touch and visually) - he could have charged me for work but he as an honest expert didn't feel it was neccessary. His advice was ventilation and possibly a dehumidifier in the depths of winter. There are concerns about property agents utilising high valuation prices to try and achieve high prices but don't lose due to their fees if the property as mine did fails to sell. I spent over £3000 as well as the cost of the survey and the effect on my health has been catastrophic. I don't think Shepherds care nor take any of this on board....money drives everything it seems
