Joe carried an indepth survey on a property for us. The survey including detailed photographs and a 3 tire priority list. We also had a face to face google meeting and went through the survey step by step. We are very pleased with survey and the service we received.

An excellent service from Joe and Allen-Aldus surveying. Having shelled out on surveys for previous properties that didn't really tell me much, I went searching for a surveyor and Joe came highly recommended. Communication was clear and the survey of my property was carried out promptly. The report followed quickly and was exceptionally detailed - I felt each section was clear and thorough and even with no background I was able to work out clearly where the issues were, what could be treated as urgent and what should be planned for long term. The post-survey call was particularly good; again this was extremely thorough, Joe took the time to go through each aspect of his report, made sure I understood everything and gave his advice. An excellent service overall; I don't plan on moving again for a very (very, very!) long time, but if I did I wouldn't hesitate to use Allen-Aldus surveying again; highly recommended.

After doing a lot of research to find the right surveyor, Joe’s name kept coming up repeatedly in local Facebook groups with high recommendations. Buying a house is a huge investment, so getting it done properly and professionally was my top priority. From the start, the process was seamless. I filled out the online form and received a quick response, then made the payment. While I didn't get an immediate payment confirmation email, I trusted the stellar reviews and I’m so glad I did. Shortly after booking, our house chain broke, and the estate agent had to hold off the survey. Joe was incredibly patient and kept in touch with us throughout the entire waiting period while the chain re-established, keeping our place on the waiting list so we wouldn't lose our spot. As soon as the sale was back on track and I let him know, he fit us into his schedule very quickly. The report turnaround was fast, taking just a few days and the quality was outstanding. It was extremely detailed, packed with clear photos, and full of plain-English explanations. He even offered a follow-up video call to walk through the findings, but the report itself was so comprehensive that we didn't even need it. I was looking for a surveyor in relation to the purchase of a bungalow in Norfolk, but I did not know a surveyor in the area. I was given Joe of Allen-Aldus Surveying’s number as a recommendation, and I nervously contacted him, not really knowing what to expect. Joe’s initial call with me was professional and thorough, and helped to put my mind at ease. He explained that his costs may be a bit more than some surveyors might charge, but that a lot of surveyors to use templated reports and do not go into as much detail and depth as he would. He gave me the confidence that he would offer me a more comprehensive and personalised service. We agreed that a Level 2 report would be appropriate for my particular property. Joe advised that he intentionally limits the number of surveys he carries out per week so that he is able to spend the appropriate amount of time surveying the property and writing up the report. He also advised that after the survey had been delivered, he would set aside an hour to carry out a video call to discuss the survey report in detail. Joe was accommodating and was able to carry out the report fairly quickly despite his busy schedule. The resulting 104 page report was incredibly thorough, with useful photographs and clear descriptions of any potential problem areas. The use of colour coded sections within the report was particularly helpful to me to easily identify areas of the property that would need the most immediate attention. One aspect the report that was useful was a section to send to the conveyancing solicitor for clarification from the vendor, such as ensuring that Building Regulations certification was in place for the extension. This is something that I probably would not have considered myself and could have led to potential issues when coming to resell the property in the future. I found the post survey video call really useful. Joe has a friendly and professional manner, and comes across as someone who actually cares and has time for his clients - which is rare in my limited experience of home buying in the past. One really important thing that came out of my experience with Joe was that his thorough report gave me the information that I needed to be able to make a truly informed decision on whether to go ahead with the purchase, giving me full exposure to any potential issues with the property. Armed with this information, I was able to go back to the vendor and request a fairly substantial reduction on my initially agreed price given that I had a better understanding of the work required to remedy key issues with the property. Joe kindly took a few calls and emails from me to advise me on the best way to approach the request for a price reduction, and even helped me to word my email to the vendors appropriately. It is a cliché to say you get what you pay for, but in this case I genuinely believe that is the case. By using Joe for my survey, I got a detailed, personalised and bespoke service that I know I would not have got if I had used an online surveying company that may have been a bit cheaper. Thanks to Joe, I have saved a fairly substantial amount of money on the property and am now confident that I am going into the purchase knowing what needs to be addressed. I would recommend Allen-Aldus Surveying without hesitation.

Joe Allen-Aldus was an amazing surveyor. I went for a level 3 survey and he provided a quick turnaround and an incredibly detailed report that had any property jargon also explained in plain English (very useful as a FTB) and had proposed steps clearly outlined. Because of the survey results I realised that the property I'd offered on was a far bigger project than I was willing/able to take on and withdrew. Joe saved me a lot of heartache and money in the long run. Whole-heatedly recommend. Well worth the money.

As a first-time buyer, so much of the process of purchasing a property can be confusing, overwhelming and difficult. I am extremely glad that Joe proved to be an exception to this at every turn! He made the entire process as smooth and easy as possible, carrying out a thorough level 3 survey and compiling a report that was extremely understandable to a layperson. Apologies for the delay in writing this! We've finally moved in. As first-time buyers, it was difficult to know whether a Level 3 survey would simply generate a long list of worst-case scenarios or genuinely help us understand the property. Looking back after completing and starting work on the house, I can honestly say instructing Joe at Allen-Aldus Surveying was one of the best decisions we made. Joe's report was incredibly thorough, clear and balanced. Rather than simply highlighting defects, he explained what they meant, their likely causes and where our priorities should be. At the time, some of the findings felt quite cautious, but as we've begun carrying out repairs they've proved remarkably accurate. Our electrician confirmed the issues identified in the report, our loft contractor echoed the concerns around insulation and ventilation, and most impressively, our roofer uncovered a concealed defect beneath a previous repair that turned out to be the source of long-standing damp in one of the bedrooms—exactly the sort of issue Joe had encouraged us to investigate further. The survey gave us realistic expectations before buying, helped us budget properly and meant there were very few unpleasant surprises after moving in. That's exactly what you want from a surveyor. If you're buying a property, particularly an older home, I'd have no hesitation in recommending Joe and Allen-Aldus Surveying. The survey has already paid for itself several times over, and we feel much more confident tackling the house knowing we started with such a comprehensive assessment.
